Casey Anthony – Updates, Bio, Photos, Trial, Verdict and More

Casey Anthony was born on March 19, 1986, in Warren, Ohio. She had one other sibling and her family and her parents were George and Cindy Anthony. Her father George worked in law enforcement. Growing up, Casey was known as being a bright and personable young person. She had many friends and was thought of as being a pretty ordinary person.

When Casey Anthony turned 19, her parents started to suspect she was pregnant because of the weight she was gaining. Initially Casey denied it and claimed she had never had sex with anyone. About seven months after becoming pregnant, she let her parents know the truth about what had happened. It was still a mystery though who the baby’s father was. Casey suggested a few different men it could be such as her fiancé, Jesse Grund and another man she had dated before who had unfortunately died in a car crash. Her daughter Caylee Anthony was born on August 9, 2005.

One of Casey’s friends said that she had considered giving the baby up for adoption but her mother had discouraged her from doing this. So for the next couple of years Casey and Caylee lived with Casey’s parents. At first, her fiancé Jesse thought that he might be the father. But a DNA test later concluded that he was not the actual father. It is still a mystery to Caylee’s father actually is.

A pretty serious fight broke out on June 15, 2008 between Casey Anthony and her mom Cindy. Her mom saw some photos of Casey that had been posted online from a “no clothes party” she had attended.  After seeing these, her mom Cindy told Casey that she was not fit to be a mother and told her daughter that she would seek getting custody of Caylee.  A day later, Casey Anthony took her daughter and left her parent’s home.  She told them that her intention was to go to Tampa, Florida so that she could work at Universal Studios there.

Caylee Anthony Disappears

For the next month, Casey’s mom called her to see how Caylee was doing. Every time she called, Casey explained that her daughter was with the babysitter whose name was, Zenaida “Zanny” Fernandez-Gonzales.

A little while later on July 13, 2008, Casey’s parents got a letter in the mail saying that Casey’s car was now in a tow yard.  When Casey’s dad George, went to go get the car, he noticed several things with the car such as Casey’s purse, Kaylee’s car seat and some of her toys. George also picked up a very strong smell from the car. He thought it smelled like organic matter decomposing and he noticed the smell was coming from the trunk of the car.

This caused quite a bit of alarm, so Casey’s mom Cindy eventually found Casey at her boyfriend, Tony Lararo’s home.  Cindy then brought Casey back home to her house and that’s when she broke down.  Her brother Lee was also there and she told them both how she had left her daughter Kaylee with the nanny in Orlando on June 16, and that the nanny (Zenaida) had actually kidnapped her daughter.

31 days after Kaylee’s disappearance, Cindy Anthony reported her as being missing to the orange County Sheriff’s office.  This was on July 15. The detectives then came and questioned Casey Anthony and found some discrepancies between different sign statements she had made about Caylee’s disappearance.

Caylee Anthony & Casey AnthonyInitially Casey Anthony said that her daughter had been kidnapped in Orlando by her nanny, Zenaida.  The problem was that none of Casey’s friends or family had ever heard of this particular nanny. As detectives looked into this matter they discovered that there wasn’t actually a nanny involved.

There was no nanny altogether. Detectives also caught Casey Anthony lying to them when she told them that she had been working at Universal Studios and she even went so far as to lead them around the theme park. Eventually she confessed that she had been fired from Universal Studios a few years ago. Casey Anthony was then arrested on July 16, 2008.

The search for Caylee Anthony continued to go on. Meanwhile Casey Anthony was under a lot of pressure and scrutiny for many of the things she was doing leading up to the time that Kaylee was reported as being missing. This including partying and then on July 2 she even got a tattoo that read “Bella Vita,” or “Beautiful Life” in Italian.

Casey Anthony was able to return home on August 21, 2008 after a bounty hunter named Leonard Padilla posted over $500,000 in bail money for her. His hope was that Casey would help lead detectives to figure out where Caylee was and to be able to find her.  However, after she was released from prison she wasn’t able to provide any additional clues. Leonard talked about her as being narcissistic and promiscuous which added more fuel to the fire about the growing negative public feelings towards her. The disappearance of Caylee Anthony had now received national media attention and was becoming a big deal for the public to find out what was happening. As time went on, both the public and press seem to be generally very unhappy and even outraged at the kind of behavior Casey Anthony have been demonstrating. Only eight days after her release, Casey Anthony was placed back in jail. This time it was because she was charged with forging checks and also using another friend’s credit cards without her friend’s permission.

Casey Anthony Trial

A few months later, a meter reader named Roy Kronk discovered a plastic bag containing human remains. This was on December 11, 2008 and he found the back in a wooded area which was located near the Anthony’s home. It was discovered that the skull had duct tape on it as well. By December 19, it was able to be confirmed that the human remains which Roy Kronk had initially discovered, were those of Caylee  Anthony.

Casey Anthony TrialCasey Anthony’s trial started in June of 2011. By the time her trial started, it had been about three years since her daughter had disappeared. The trial was broadcast live over various cable news channels. As a result, Casey Anthony, her daughter Caylee, and the entire Anthony family dominated the news at that time.

The prosecution tried hard to paint a picture of Casey Anthony has been a very viscous partier. They try to show that she was not concerned at all with the fact that her daughter was missing and ultimately that she was the one responsible for her murder. They even included evidence that someone at the Anthony’s home had been searching for information about the toxic chemical chloroform on their home computer. It was later discovered that chloroform was also found in the trunk of Casey’s car.

Casey Anthony’s defense was led by José Baez.  Who’s a painted a very different picture and as a result told quite a different story. The Defense explains that Caylee Anthony had actually drowned in their families swimming pool on June 16, 2008. He also explained that Casey’s dad George had been covered up the death to prevent his daughter Casey from being charged with child neglect. Jose also shocked everyone when he mentioned that Casey’s dad George had actually abused his daughter sexually. He said this first began when Casey Anthony was eight years old. He also explained that Casey’s brother Lee, had often made sexual advances towards his sister Casey. Just to be safe, they performed a DNA test on Lee Anthony and determined that he was not Kaylee’s father either. Hosea use these examples to illustrate that Casey was used to covering up her pain, suffering and hurt. The defense rested its case on June 30 with Casey Anthony actually never taking the stand herself.
